Flight to London/Rome

The Cathay Pacific flight to London was good.  The food and service were great, no complaints at all.  I fell asleep somewhere over southern Mongolia and woke up just after Moscow.  I watched a movie called the Way Back, about some guys who escaped the gulag in Siberia under the Soviets, and walked all the way to India.  It was pretty sad, but had a good ending, and made me happy I was flying instead of walking!  The bed was comfortable, and I slept pretty soundly, probably 7 hours before I woke up, then another hour after that.  The seats in the Bubble for this flight are “fish bone” configuration, so they are very private, but you can’t really talk to your neighbor.  So we said hello a couple of times, but otherwise just got to do our own thing with the entertainment system, and slept well.  Before we knew it, we were getting ready to land in London!

In London, we thought we had several hours, due to my miscalculation.  We have more time coming BACK through London, on our last long haul to Mexico City.  But on this transfer, we only had about an hour and a half.  So I thought it would be wonderful to go through immigration and get our passports stamped, just to get another stamp.  Not the best idea I ever had!  Hahaha  We did make it through though, and got on the wrong train to transfer terminals, and had to take another one.  Again, that was my mistake!  My travelling buddy was very patient though and didn’t give me too bad of a time, thankfully.  I was more worried than him in fact.  But in the end, we made it to our gate just in time, with a few minutes to spare, and walked onto the flight to Rome.  Now we are headed there.  We are both lagging a bit, but not too badly.  We napped for a few minutes on takeoff but after breakfast (actually – as the hobbits say, “second breakfast”, since they also fed us in the morning on the flight to London!), perked up again.  We are just now flying over the Alps, and David is getting some good pictures it looks like!  So I will include those when I finally post this up later tonight most likely…
This afternoon, hopefully we’ll see the Coliseum and Palatine Hill, then tomorrow morning, the Pope and Vatican!  Can’t wait!!  Will have to get to bed early tonight though.

Famous "fishbone" seats on Cathay Pacific

Obligatory "down the stairs" shot to prove we were really in the Bubble

Memorial of our Heathrow transfer debacle, all worked out fine thankfully and we didn't miss the flight though!

First site of the Mediterranean coast!
